Even though gas prices average $3.84 per gallon across the US, we noticed
that hiring demand for truck drivers hasn't been deterred. In March, almost
41,000 jobs were advertised online for this occupation, a 33% increase compared
to March of 2011. This also marks a new 4-year high in demand for truck drivers
– far exceeding pre-recession volumes. Recruiters in Chicago placed the highest
volume of job ads for drivers during March, growing more than 30% over the past
year in this one city. Other locations with the highest number of job ads for
truck drivers during March included Dallas, New York, Houston, and
Philadelphia.
